My photo album

Hi! My name is Blackie. I am one of the henhouse girls who bring you these great farm fresh eggs. It makes me very happy to know you are enjoying them in your omelletes. This is a picture of me enjoying the warm sunshine. Rachel takes very good care of my sisters and me. She feeds us only top quality feed from a local farm store. We also scratch for bugs and greens in our large play yard. There was a mean old coyote coming around so Rachel had to build us a play yard to keep us safe. Oh Oh.. I need to go, I just saw a grasshopper! Goodbye!

Welcome to the web site for Rachel's Chicks!

My name is Rachel and I am 9 years old. My father got a bunch of chicks 2 years ago and began raising chickens. They were so cute when we picked them up at the post office. They were puffy little fuzz balls. Now they are nice big laying hens.

I have named everyone of them. They all know me and are very friendly. I take them for rides in the wagon. They like to play on the swing set and I even take them down the slide. They like it when I hold them and pet them.

My dad got a rooster that we named Volcano. He was black, yellow, orange, and red and looked like he was erupting! My dad used an incubator and hatched some of the eggs. It was awesome to see the baby chicks hatch. I can't wait to do it again! I now have a rooster name Reckless because he never has been in a coop. He stays with the hens but roosts in the tree at night.

To Do List - Pick up some eggs from Rachel on my way home!.

  1. we just bought some new baby chicks!

  2. Rachel,

    This webpage is amazing. I am very impressed. I did some exploring on the page and I am very interested! Are you still selling your eggs? I want to hear all about your chicks and how you and your dad organized this amazing webpage.

  3. If you go to Rachels fourm .Click on eat chicken and go to the bottem of the website and their will be movies of chickens and how to cook chicken.

  4. Look at the new picturs we put in.

  5. Hey everyone, check out Rachel's new Chicken Forum on the next tab! Stop by and post a few!

  6. It looks like the local predators have been leaving us alone for the last month or so. We lost about 25 hens in total. Our coop is predator resistant, as well as the chicken yard. Unfortunately, one must always be looking to build a better mouse trap. The good news is the barred rock hen that was viciously, and gravely wounded, has made a full recovery. After more than 2 months in the hospital coop she was placed back with her sisters. We also placed about 2 dozen eggs in the incubator today to replenish our stock.

  7. We have some very sad news to report. On Monday April 27, a fox got into the chicken yard and the coop. 7 of our great laying hens were killed and partially eaten. 8 hens are missing. Of the 35 hens that were in the coop, a total of 15 are gone. Thankfully Blackie, and Bocky survived. Unfortunately, Bent Toe, Gullet and the others are gone.

    Rachel and I plan to hatch some barred rocks once they start laying to replenish the flock. The 10 Barred rocks in the separate coop were unharmed.

  8. Thank you will for comming on my website!

    Rachel!

  9. Rachel and family-

    I wanted to drop a note to let you know how much I and my hospital friends love getting your eggs. I know coming up with all those eggs I order is hard woek for those girls in the coop, but we love em.

    Keep it up!! See ypu in about 2 weeks

  10. Rachels Dad;

    I think you are doing a wonderful job with your daughter. I have one too and wouldn't take a million dollars for the memories she has given her old dad. If there is anything I can do to help you support your little princess, you let me know. If you email me @topteck_1@juno.com, I can let you know where I live and you can feel free to come and get those feeders and waterers anytime. It really is great to see a Dad supporting their daughter like you are doing . Keep up the good work......Buck

  11. Mr Buck, thank you for the kind words and offer of help with the turkeys. Currently we have so many egg customers we are sold out many days in advance of them laying. We do have more hens coming in the near future. However, at this time I don't think it is right to take on any more customers. If you email us through the contact page, I can add you to a waiting list. I never thought her eggs would become so popular. I apologize that I have not had a chance to make a notice on the web site to this effect. Thanks -Dan

  12. Rachel;

    Be real careful when you get the turkeys this April. I raisegame birds such as chukars, quail and ringneck pheasants and have raised turkeys in the past. They are hard to raise little one and they will die very quickly if they get chilled or damp or even too hot. Keep an eye on them until they are fully feathered and make sure they have what you might even think is way too much area for them. If you need to borrow any large feeders or waterers, give me a shout and maybe dad can bring you out to pick 'em up. I can't give them to you but I'll be glad to loan them to you for as long as it takes for you to save up your profits to buy your own.. I like to see kids doing something besides playing on those darned playstation things.Keep up the good work young lady. Hey how many eggs would you need to sell on a consistent basis for you to meet someone in town on a Saturday morning or Sunday afternoon (sorry have to go to church Sunday mornings) ? How many dozen eggs every 2 weeks would it take to make it profitable for you to meet us? We live out around Lake Anna and I have no idea where you are from.If you can't do it that's OK. Ask your Pop and get back to me if you will. Thanks little one.

  13. My dad orderd 37 more chickens we are getting 25 meat birds to eat . I'm getting 10 Barred Rock hens and 1 Rhode Island Red rooster. i want to hatch their eggs to get more Black Stars. We have a new rooster who keeps escaping from his pen. I brought Bocky down the slide today and crashed in the mudd with Bocky on top of me.
